January 14th is Uttarayan or Makar Sankrat
At Avsar, our specials for Uttarayan features favourite foods traditionally eaten on terraces and grounds of Gujarat and other places in India, while people fly kites all day during this festival.
This weekend, enjoy the Royal Thali with unlimited* Jalebi, Undhiyu, Khaman and other delicious items. After 4 pm, you can enjoy the same menu, with limited thali.

Subji (Curries): Undhiyu, Rassa Bateta, Kala Chana

Mithai (Sweet Dish): Kesar Jalebi (made in desi ghee)
Poori, Rotli (for limited thali, it will be a choice of either one)

According to the Indian calendar, the festival of Uttarayan marks the beginning of winter changing into summer and signals the farmers that the sun is back and that harvest season is approaching which is called Makara Sankranti. During the festival, local food such as Undhiyu (a mixed vegetable including yam and beans), sesame seed brittle and Jalebi is served to the crowds.
Uttaran or Uttarayan is one of the festivals that is celebrated with great fervour across India and particularly in Ahmedabad and other cities across Gujarat. ‘Kaai-ppo-ccheee‘ a word that conquers terraces of Ahmedabad and other cities across Gujarat and Mumbai on January 14th each year and like any festival how can good food be far behind?
